Good God: Faith for the Rest of UsWhen his youngest students ask why God seemed to speak all the time to biblical figures but never speaks to anyone today, Rabbi Daniel Weiner answers, “God is speaking all the time. We’ve simply not made room to hear.”

As the cacophony of modern life and religious/political discord threatens to drown out the Eternal and the values of faith, Rabbi Weiner encourages us to listen to that inner voice we may be hard-wired as humans to hear: the divine spark at the center of our being.

Weaving strands of political commentary, pop culture, humor, memoir, stories from the Torah and interfaith observations, Rabbi Weiner explores a new way to look at monotheism and the Creator, through a belief system he grounds in Spirit at the Center of Being and Spirit at the Center of Ideology.

This “renaissance of faith reflects a growing awareness, well understood and abundantly appreciated for millennia, that God’s revelation is ongoing, a renewed sharing of the eternal and the absolute made relevant to each generation. The relationship borne of this revelation determines how God lives through us in the world, and most importantly, why.”

We are a nation of discerning believers. More than 80 percent tell pollsters they believe in God, more than 60 percent do not want religion to be involved in government, and the majority seek spiritual growth but do not often find it in the faith of their ancestors or in organized religion.

Weiner takes aim at atheism as “the chilly emptiness of godless rationalism” as well as hip versions of Kabala, New Age spirituality, and other faith groups that offer “instant fulfillment.”

“With humility and hope, I offer a suggested course for a challenging moment in our history… one rooted in the traditions of monotheism but aware of the need to liberate its wisdom from the shackles of human frailty and fear.”
